For their third album, titled Black Dog Barking, Australian rockers Airbourne continue to develop their sound, opting for more progressive arrangements and subtle, introspective lyrics that OMG I can't even type that with a straight face! Come on; it's Airbourne we're talking about here! This is big, dumb AC/DC-worshipping rock, and it's completely awesome.

Airbourne has never been the most original band, and that doesn't change here. Black Dog Barking picks up right where No Guts, No Glory and Runnin' Wild left off: with the band stealing from AC/DC's playbook and having a helluva time doing it. We get ten new hard rocking, hard partying songs chock full of huge riffs, catchy rhythms and Joel O'Keefe singing about women, wine and partying hard in his signature raspy voice. Album opener (and first single) "Ready to Rock" is this album's "Stand Up for Rock n' Roll," and it's such an awesome track. "No One Fits Me (Better Than You)" and "Woman Like That" are two other songs I keep cranking up, but honestly there's not a single dud on this album.

This one's a no-brainer (in a couple of different ways, I suppose). If you liked the first two Airbourne albums, you're going to love Black Dog Barking. If you're looking for anything other than simple, fun rock music that sticks close to an established band's sound, you'll want to keep going. Besides, if AC/DC isn't interested in making new albums, why not enjoy the next best thing?

Edition Notes: There is a Special Edition of Black Dog Barking with three additional studio tracks. It appears to be digital-only, and you can buy the bonus tracks individually if you already have the standard album.
