Billy Vaughn - Electrified! FLAC

"Electrified!" is a more or less solid entry in the Billy Vaughn catalog. Not as quirky as "Windmills of Your Mind" or as stunningly exotic as "Pearly Shells," it nonetheless serves its purpose as relaxing late night fare. "I Got a Name" is noteworthy for the inclusion of a country-tinged electric guitar line that manages to bob along rather nicely in the maelstrom of sax and strings that comprises most of this album. "Haze" contains some tinkling electric piano, surging strings, and tasteful sax soloing from Mr. Vaughn. "Killing Me Softly" begins as a standard number, then spins off into a crazy crescendo near the end, taking a left turn into electric keyboard jazz territory as the song fades out. Side two is a bit less adventurous, but still manages to be a pleasant way to pass the time. By titling this release "Electrified!" I suppose the intent was to emphasize the use of synthesizer and guitar sounds in the mix, but make no mistakes -- this album is not going to incite any riots. The electric elements perhaps raise it above the level of syrupy EZ listening into slightly engaging soul-jazz. Worth checking out if you are into the Billy Vaughn scene.
