Despite the lack of a comprehensive track-listing and less-than-impressive sound quality, I would recommend this to anyone; not just 'Techno' fans. Listening to a copy of the actual, studio-released Fact 2 album doesn't really elicite the same response; I was rather bored by a lot of it. However, this is where Carl Cox takes it on the road and, in the process, sprinkles his magic dust all over it. Carl, like all the great Dj's, has the ability to select seemingly obscure, plain-sounding tunes and drop them in and out of the mix in such way (and with such timing) that they just explode into life in true 'on-the-fly' remix wizardry.
The thing is, as an ex-DJ, I know he's not doing anything particuarly difficult with the vinyl; the Dave Clarke remix of 'Rocco' by Death In Vegas is a good example of this. The actual remix flatters a DJ by giving the appearance of lots of mad cutting/chopping of 'Zero B - Lock-up'; but this is all Dave Clarke. The magic is that, Carl gives the entire set this feel, doing extensive dropping/mixing with tracks like 'Envoy - Dark Manoeuvers' and 'Green Velvet - The Stalker'. So, when the tune-selection and execution is so inspired, you don't need to be a Techno fan to enjoy it - it has a a life of it's own.
