To me, this one sounds substandard and pale even if taking into consideration the year it was produced in. Weak, and two completely unimaginative tracks on the A side, with basically nothing going on in either one of them, with the exception of some totally random effects and "hiccups" on Skipp, which can at certain times sound cool, but for two minutes tops. Phatamorgasm is where this EP comes to life the most. Linear and stripped percussion, with light melodies playing in the background, as a steady acid sequence slowly pierces through until it takes control over the track. The acid never really explodes or ventures in some freaked out mental territory, it rather pokes through and jams with the trance melody. A fine acid trance tune, something that could sit along well with some material released on the Labworks imprint. B2 keeps up with the acid touch, only this time around, with a more experimental hook, which sounds like somebody was playing xylophone on train tracks. The acid synths are much more freely floating here, and go quite well with the fast percussion and that crazy, metallic hook. It all comes together quite well, and despite the overall adequate quality of the B side, on a more serious note, this is honestly only worth your time and money if you come across it in a Christmas sale bargain bin, and only if you have already covered the wide array of acid/acid trance gems released at the time, since, at the end of the day, "Drive EP" falls short of reaching the quality and self confidence a majority of artists who were on the scene back then and made music in similar style accomplished.
Sorry man, I know it's your opinion and everything but you are honestly quite wrong about this one. I wasn't hot over heels for it at first myself but to sum it up, I've discovered that after repeated listens that this interesting, undoubtedly experimental, & highly underrated EP is rather smashing to say the least if given the correct mindset (regardless if the tracks on side A are a tad minimal (but not to the point to where it's boring or monotonous), even though the A2 track 'Skipp' isn't even that minimal to be frank) instead of 'unimaginative' or 'pale' as you described it (since it genuinely isn't) as are the rest of Clox's releases! I'm really not trying to sound like an ass or anything, it's just that you're being quite too hard on them since the two tracks on the A side are certainly not substandard nonetheless. However, you are damn right about the B-side, if not spot-on though! It's just in my honest opinion that the 3 people that laughably gave this 1 star, & the two people that gave it 2 stars for whatever absurd, indiscernible reason probably should simply reconsider. Haha I'm sorry, I just can't understand just what is so terrible about it nor also wrap my head around why it's so lowly rated either! Seriously, the moment I put their "Drive EP" as well as the "AB003 EP" on my speakers, I was genuinely blown away by Clox's awe-inspiring sound/style to the point to where I instantly became obsessed with them in addition to the entire ABsense label, no joke! 4.5/5
