Still one of my favorite Parsons albums and I do admire his commitment to making eastern infused ambient music but this release is always a go to for over 15 years which says alot.
Perhaps its the instrumentation my ears are akin to you know of the time Roland D50s, Samplers and Xpanders. There's just such a fine restrained balance in tone and feel that the music just seeps into your subconscious mind begging to be heard again at some point in time when one must detach from the hustle and madness of the concrete jungle.
Himalaya conjures up imagery thru sound utilizing chants, east Indian percussion, environmental sounds all in a evocative audio soup for the hungry ear. This is transportive music nothing like what we are bombarded with in society. Its intelligent, cultured and never fodder for the knuckle dragging mainstream music consumer. Parsons never succumbs to cliche or expectations to give into a more modern compositional form instead he lets his artistic muse guide him down the paths that lead to the musical stupas!
