Masterpiece, is all I can say. This piece of wax contains within it fine examples of Techno, Acid, Trance. The record is a fine representation of the sound back then and the future (well back then you would of thought the future would of held this type of attitude, wow was I wrong). But anyhow on with the review.
The A side of this vinyl is pure CLASS!!!! I remember when I first heard "Drone In Effect" back in 93 at the moment I knew I needed to have it! To me the record reminds me of an alien air raid siren going off and a chaotic scene in some alien planet somewhere FAR away. Seriously the use of vintage analog synths and 303 in this record literally twists, warps your mind into a picturesque portrait of futuristic proportions. I remember when I would play this record and hear people complain that the record is messing with there heads! PRICELESS!
Snowbound is another masterpiece. This is Acid trance in my opinion. This tune at 147bpms starts of nice and gentle. Soothing pads and a steady beat maintaining a laid back attitude.... then the 303 comes in followed by synth sounds that reminds me of futurist objects hoovering around chaoticly. The crazy pitch & filter modulations going on with it definatly adds to the image. The funny thing is even with all the tweaking the track is still maintaining its laid back soothing feel but at the same time adding energy that just makes you want to loose yourself to the record... Trust me you do!
Now the B side. This side starts off with some attitude. Sphynx has a more distorded hard 909 kick and at times mimicks Drone In Effects drum pattern in some ways but is more harder. Typical Freddie Fresh if you ask me! The track is quality steady acid techno!
Now Quake. Again crazy modulated synths hard kicks & a breakbeat in the backround give this tune an upbeat feel. The fast tempo and energy makes this a perfect candidate for when you got the party rocking and want to continue the onslaught! NO PRISONERS PEOPLE!
In closing this is one of my favorite techno records (and trust me I have alot) The vinyl is very futurist sounding. Certainly of alien origin. This record was a huge influence on my sound and approach to making acid techno. Analog, 303 & Attitude... Play this record nowadays will send the little hipster/poser kids running for the exit leaving only the true techno fans loosing themselves to this masterpiece! Hey how can you go wrong? FOR BEST RESULTS, PLAY IT LOUD!
