PROBABLY THE BEST release this obscure band has ever put out since "Sometimes Chimes," "Grimes Golden" reveals the more melodic side of the band but not without its discordant pummel and whiplash grind. Truly hanging on to the "californian" sound in the most bastardised way possible (and in effect, smearing it all over the map); FURTHER create pure pop excitement from a mush of sounds that smack of lo-fi and no-fi all in an instant. "California Bummer" and "Inert Pieces" are timeless, as they flirt with taking themselves seriously. And that just may be the glue that sends them on their way...
