Iancu Dumitrescu - Nimbus / Zenith FLAC

As a bastion of contemporary avant-garde music in Romania, news of a new album by Iancu on Generations Unlimited certainly seemed intriguing. Maybe we would hear a new facet of Iancu's work, especially considering GU is predominantly an electronic music label. Actually none of my anticipations were satisfied. Firstly, this is a Romanian pressed record of very dodgy pressing quality, and secondly it is far less adventurous than much of his recent work. No new facet, but a return to his early work in many ways. That aside, this is very interesting and intriguing music, especially considering the instrumentation of Nimbus: three trombones, percussion and tape! However, even the dramatic percussives of Zenith fail to move me much. It's okay, but nothing extraordinary.
