These kind of thoroughly mediocre tunes make me question my own sanity – a notorious scalper has a copy on eBay for 1,000 US, which is pure, outrageous speculation. Suddenly, 155 people 'want' it on Discogs – and IT AINT NO PORTION OF TUNE, by any means. Don't encourage the investment bankers (misprint) and cynical speculators in this music; find your own vibes and don't follow the herd!
stick with the Richie Mac cut, way better . .
I'm afraid this is what genuine collectors and lovers of the music are up against, a site with some sellers dedicated to inflating prices at every opportunity. Discogs has become quite Elitist, and some sellers will put on a ridiculous price and just wait for those with the cash to buy. If some big time dealer or DJ start pushing a particular tune at an event then already the price go's high, and if people don't have their own personality, they're ready to drop crazy amounts.
I mean, it’s kind of a good single, worth maybe like £10-20, but goddamn $900 is INSANE. This is like that Revelation “Man From Yard” 7”. Also, Specialist makes me think Dub Specialist, any relation? Just posting this comment because I don’t think you should disqualify a tune because of the cost.
In this case I agree with the previous guy : tune is quite average, singer was even unable to create his own melody.
There are a couple of things to say about this perception. I agree with you in part that there are those dealers/speculators out there and some well known dealers in fact who are dedicated to pushing up prices which is bad for collectors who have a genuine love for the music. As for this record in particular, this is a very rare deep roots tune with a similar rhythm to 'Queen of the Nile' by Crasher which sells around the same price and grows on you after a few plays and that maybe reflected in the valuation, the other side of the argument is that there is no set prices on old and used records and the value is whatever a person is prepared to pay for it, bearing in mind that the prices of collectable records will only increase, so from an investment pov you have to buy when they become available because you can bet the next time it comes up the price will be even higher, which is good for commision based sites like Discogs/eBAY and sellers, but not so good for buyers.
