John Wallowitch - Appearing at Dreamland Memory Ballroom FLAC

John Wallowitch was an amazing musician and prolific songwriter, appreciated by a relatively small number of admirers. Mostly forgotten today. He was a regular at The Ballroom on 28th Street near 8th Ave in the days of Felipe Rojas Lombardi and Tim Johnson. I was lucky enough to hear him there and also at J's, which was upstairs at 97th and B'way. Places gone and forgotten. Bertram Ross was his partner in life and at these gigs. They lived on Beekman Place next to or near Irving Berlin... John also had a very campy call-in program on public access television (MNN?). He sat there in front of the camera, behind a spinet piano and would sing and play with the receiver to his ear, as people called in requests. A musicians' musician. One time someone called up and said something like "Admit it John, you're gay." John responded by saying "That's not the way you make friends.". I never forgot that. When my mother had her 80th birthday celebration, I rewrote John's song "27" for the occasion, and performed it. He deserves to be remembered.
