Logg - Something Else / I Know You Will FLAC

What's really beyond me is why quality dancefloor material needs an re-edit? I mean, remaster the Logg catalogue, with some more emphasis on the low end and you're there.I see a lot of edits on both SC as vinyl from tracks who already proved to be great dancefloor jams in all those years, so why in the hell re-touch those? In at least 75% of the cases, the tracks don't benefit at all from those revisits. Don't get me wrong, there are quality edits out there (Tango Terje's re-work of MJ's "I Can't Help It" comes to mind), but be mindful of when you re-work whatever song.And regarding aforementioned MJ edit: THAT's how it needs to be done, by making something really work on the dancefloor whereas the (gorgeous) original version was meant more for listening.

Please don't confuse REMIXING with re-EDITING. Totally different things! To see what a new MIX (of the original parts) can do these days, check out Joey Negro, John Morales, or ME.

The B side sounds like a drunk DJ playing with the effects on their mixer, I really have no idea what Marquis was thinking, that this is "creative" and "edgy"? Perhaps he once played this at a club and the reaction was good, but that isn't enough to indicate that an edit is good. I'd honestly be embarrassed to play this at a club.

Just heard both sides in full...... Marquis what were you thinking?? This is by far his worst 12'' so far, he's normally consistently good on his AUS stuff, really surprised by this.

$1.32 for a used copy? I think that's a bit too steep.

Absolutely atrocious "remix". Genuinely surprised that Salsoul even entertained putting this out.

I was on the same boat as Leeroy about this but then I did 3 lines of ket on a dalston rooftop and it really speaks to me now.

This release is absolutly disrepectfull to the original artist, writer, composer,musicians, mixer and engineer.Young generation, should learn what a "groove" really consist in, and also show much morel respect to real artist that left us a such beautifull legacy.Is really a shame, and i don't understand that the actual staff of Salsou/BMG UK and above distr_ibution commited this crime.(nota they also committed the same for Loleatta HOOLOWAY with "Hit It N Quit It (Cratebug & Jamie 3-26 edit remix)" !If you want to support Leroy, and loleatta, don't buy thoses crap edits even for speculations purposes...."12:25" for www.black-music-collectors.com

well to be fair, Hit It N Quit It was done YEARS ago by Cratebug and was primarily a DJ tool passed around by friends. It was more of a mash up of several songs, not a remix...and it wasnt official. Salsoul just picked it up after all these years and (for some reason) added Jamie on to chop it up even more. The word on the street is that these new heads of Salsoul are going after producers who have made bootleg remixes and re'edits and forcing them to release them on Salsoul. Dr. Packer, for instance.

this is possibly the worst "Re-edits" I can remember hearing. Amateur & lacking respect for the original material. I Know You Will sounds like it was done with the effects unit on a Pioneer DJ mixer.I shouldn't get involved but I have loved the original lp since the eighties & on behalf of the thousands of Leroy Burgess fans here in the UK I am offended that Salsoul UK could commission this project, let alone go ahead with the release after hearing it. Someone at Salsoul UK needs to take a long hard look at themselves & get some respect for the legacy of Salsoul & tighten up their quality control

Not equal to the original by any measure or standard. A blurry, dissapated mess. Too much echo, too much delay, not enough of the song. An attempted re-work of a Larry Levan classic mix, and it fails miserably.

Mr. Hawkes..I have recently been exposed to your remix/re-edit of my songs from the LOGG album.. "I Know You Will" and "Something Else" and would like to, respectfully, offer my thoughts on your work.I generally afford a great amount of creative latitude to those charged with revisiting my material.. and am often pleasantly surprised by their ingenuity and creative choices. That is not the case here, unfortunately.Your mix of "I Know You Will" is virtually smothered with unnecessary echoes and digital delays.. thus obscuring the entire groove, the lead and background vocals.. making the song unrecognizable. This occurs early on and endures throughout the entire length of the mix. You, then, attempted a 'DJ'/Club-like drop-out that appears ill-placed and uneven. To me, this removes any semblance of validity to the song.On "Something Else" (my personal favorite from the album), you engaged an Auto-Harmonizer type device on the lead vocals.. transposing it a fifth down from its original position and allowed the two to play together. Further, you added more musical parts to validate the transposition.. resulting in a muddled, unrecognizable piece that's difficult to listen to.I will not presume on your credentials, your history or your abilities. I will only say that I take great pride in the original compositions and production.. which have been exceedingly well received, these past 30 plus years.. and is revered by those doing so. Your work does not do these songs justice, in my opinion. Putting it mildly, I expected to hear some creative magic from the original suggestions I put forth.. and was sorely disappointed.Moreover, I'm surprised at the execs at Salsoul Records (a company I have huge respect for).. in accepting and releasing these clearly substandard versions of my work. Given the chance, I will tell them so directly. Ken and Stan Cayre (the company's original owners) would not have permitted this to occur.. for fear of their company's reputation.In closing, I will only suggest that you please keep in mind that reworks derived from previously released material should demonstrate a reverence and appreciation for the original work.. as the original creators of that work may indeed be alive to hear it. And if you have an iota of respect for the work, it will be reflected in the work you do to enhance it.
