!!!, on LOUDEN UP NOW, blend together dance music and rock for a wild, party atmosphere, whether on the wobbling rock of "When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Karazzee" or the profane energy of "Pardon My Freedom." "Dear Can" has some traces of Afro-beat in its DNA, while the disco flourishes of "Hello? Is This Thing On?" has Maurice Fulton in its DNA. Funk is the order of the day in "Shit Scheisse Merde Pt 1" while it's brother, "Shit Scheisse Merde Pt 2" dips into the dub. "Me And Giuliani Down By The School Yard" pumps up the energy, while the darkness of "Shit Scheisse Merde Pt 1 (Instrumental)" brings things back down. On the bonus disc, "Sunday 5:17 AM" has some Gary Glitter-type glam going, Maurice Fulton gets his hands on "Dear Can" and "Pardon My Freedom" and put his inimitable house spin on them. I guess if you're going to rock out, it might as well be this way.

I'm not generally a fan of indie rock, college rock, garage rock or, indeed, any form of rock. This band and, in particular, this album remain an exception to that general principle. The production values are extremely high - tight and varied percussion shimmers clearly over funky disco-rock, yes that's right disco-rock.

Although only 2 tracks are attributed as being Maurice Fulton remixes, I am sure that his influence can be found in other parts of the album - the best trach (IMHO), Hello? Is This Thing On?, has an electro-disco stab in the intro that only Maurice Fulton seems capable of producing, elsewhere snares, hi-hats and kick drums co-ordinate in perfect synchronicity to build energy before the bass and guitar kick in to great effect - very Maurice Fulton, very nice!
