Although Marian McPartland was 89 at the time of these sessions, her playing was strong as ever. This playlist might be typical of one of her concerts, she proves herself as a masterful ballad interpreter, yet she is just as strong interpeting works of Ornette Coleman. Joined by a skilled rhythm section which frequently joined her in the studio, when playing concerts in the Northeastern U.S., or occasionally on her Piano Jazz program when she needed them, this final studio recording remains one of the best releases of Marian McPartland's long, productive career.
