Just got this album in NM from a record shop. This is a fantastic pressing and definitely one to seek out. Sounds beautiful.

this seems to have been out of print for a month or two.

You can still buy it for a normal price on eBay.

Nowhere is a place floating on a wave, in undulant movement between noise and melody. Son of 60s psychedelic utilization of dissonance and 80s post punk romantic atmospheres, Nowhere is a psychedelic lollipop drenched in noises. The Jesus and Mary Chain dichotomy between disturbing defiance and pure sweetness is here synthesized in a delicate spacy pop. Dynamic but dazing too, Ride music is not so hazy as My Bloody Valentine one, despite the evident similarity with it. The tide of liquid guitar effects rises and goes down wrapping delicate melodies, never drowning or deforming them in an impenetrable wall of sound, as in the Irish band music. Nowhere is a noise rock album as Sonic Youth or Dinosaur Jr. ones: what makes it unique is its European sensibility, always focused on melodies and atmospheres.

I am a bit confused because I have now ordered two copies of this repressing (one for a gift and one for myself) and there was a striking difference in the construction and printing of the outer sleeves. One was absolutely gorgeous: it had a heavier-than-ordinary construction, the colors were deep and vivid, and the words "Ride" and "Nowhere" were not printed in any contrasting color or shade but were embossed so that you might not have even known they were there until you ran your hands over the surface. The other jacket felt ordinary-weight, its surface was smoother/glossier, it's colors were less vivid, and the words printed in an easy-to-read light shade of blue instead of being embossed. I already gave the nicer one away as a gift before getting the second one, not realizing what a huge difference there would be. Should there be two different entries for these two versions?

Confirmed. I've only seen maybe two copies with the embossed "RIDE" lettering on the front, and from what I recall there was no Rhino sticker on them. All the copies I've stumbled upon since have been of the cheaper looking variety, and they all did have the Rhino records sticker.

Did you compare these two versions? I have the same smoother with no-convex letters cover. I wonder why they made two different reissues with the same inner sleeve and vinyl. My LP has the same number of matrix as the prettier one. I wrote to Rhino but they couldn't help me.

I found this too. Wasn't very impressed.

One thing to note is that this album does not have the amazing track "Nowhere" on it, which one CD version I owned did have. However, this version should be the standard for how the record should sound. Most of the CD releases of this have been horribly mangled when they were mastered.

I have to agree.... I have an original US Sire 1990 cd.... at the time I thought it sounded ok, but with better equipment it sounds very muddy and like the volume has been turned down 10 notches .... I want a vinyl copy but don’t know which will sound the best. I imagine a U.K. creation original will far outplay a sire records version. I’m not sure about remastered new versions....

This is an excellent first US issue on vinyl, very faithful to the original UK LP, right down to the embossed type on the front cover. Nice hefty vinyl, beautiful uncoated paper stock, record is stored in plain sleeve but printed inner sleeve is also included, sounds excellent. One amazing album. Recommended.
