Love her or hate her but one thing you cannot deny - Sinead's extreme talent. It is amazing that people put this much anger into a debut album and being merely 20 years old. How much bitterness she experienced throughout her childhood, God only knows - her excesses usually put her upfront the media regardless of her musical authenticity and that's a shame.

'The Lion & the Cobra' is a strange reference to her late mother - a list of painful debts for all of the abuse and torture Sinead experienced as a child, coping unstable life herself ever after. 'If it wasn't for the music, I'd probably be another Kurt Cobain' - she said in one of her current interviews.

Music as mental healing process is always better - from the very kickstart of 'Jackie', you are exposed to so much rage it is quite impossible to shake off, after very couple of minutes pouring into this album. 'Mandinka', a deserved hit, is more melody-friendly, but Sinead's vocals make sure it's not at rest, which improves another deeply emotional battle on the excellent 'Jerusalem' and 'Just Lie U Said It Would B'.

Among album's gems lies a significant synthesis of orchestral, art-rock and even jazzy elements - 'Troy' is a lost masterpiece for a never-recorded spectacular film; chilling strings creeping up, fading into the ear, with exquisit blow in the end. 'I Want Your Hands on Me' (which features a rap singer on its single version) tackles funk, while elegiac 'Drink Before the War' and claustrophobic 'Just Call Me Joe' all help creating the album's full circle of eclectic perfection.

'Never Get Old' is the most powerful and at the same time a very frightening piece indeed - it opens with Enya's guesting vocals, an Irish spoken word intro resurfaced in English on the back of the album's sleeve; beautiful, angelic vocals slide in with Sinead singing her sadness against a threatning, deep sounding background - that, in the wake of 'Troy', explodes mercilessly at the listener, undoubtedly leaving nothing but sense of grief.

A masterpiece.
