so called pundits typically write this album off as signalling the start of the demise of slave, as arrington, washington, curt jones, and starleana among others had left the group, seemingly leaving the group without creative direction. but anytime you ever read that, don't believe it. in fact, slave never lost creative direction with the departure of the aforementioned members. the main reason is that the heart and soul of the slave sound and their writing was always mark 'hansolar' adams, the most distinctive, funky, and nasty modern bass player to ever walk the planet. the fact is that his basslines were the slave sound. and the remaining members yet again coalesced around adams' lines for this album, producing an amazing set of funky r and b that continued on from showtime LP. furthermore, not only is this album great, the team kept producing amazing albums right into the early 1990s. slave was definitely the best funk group ever, never put out a bad record. peace and love

I assume the master tapes of this excellent album was not treated good during the mastering process... On both original album and the remaster versions obviously retain 'digital hissing' sound in the background, according to the credits the whole album was digitally mixed and mastered on JVC system. On 2005 remastered version that hissing sound is even more sharper than the vinyl. I'm not a sound pro so that would be great if any veterans could explain why this album sounds like this?
