"The End Of The Show" started its life as a track from their 1972 album "Signed By The Cats". It was not meant to be a single; the big hit from that album is "Let's Dance".
It became a fan favourite and also the closing song of most of their concerts.

However, at the end of the 1970s, their name and fame went straight downhill; in 1979, they did not even manage to produce a hit single at all. New styles of music (most notably disco, punk and new wave) entered the market and The Cats would not fit in any of these. So it was decided to call it a day. One compilation with their greatest hits and some never compiled before B-sides was released, and to promote the sales, this single was released. It became a domestic Top 5 hit, a feat they have not accomplished since early 1974. The show did come to an end...

Today, the song is still remembered as one of their most loved. It is also often used as a funeral song.
