The Chrysanthemums - Porcupine Quills FLAC

The early 90s was a funny time. Half the youth was dancing to hardcore and techno, while indie music,at least in the UK, took a distinctly psychedelic turn into indie dance and shoegaze. This meant bands who had previously been seen as retro (Sundial), neo-psychedelic (Spacemen 3, Primal Scream) or just art rock with a Syd Barrett twist like the Chrysanthemums were suddenly almost contemporary. All that was needed was some groove in the form of sampled beats or funky drummers. and they had a chance of chart success with the likes of Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, My Bloody Valentine etc. This release was the closest The Chrysanthemums ever came to really being contemporary and while some may accuse them (and the other bands mentioned above) of opportunism or bandwagon hopping, I think this was just a thrust to create a new psychedelia, modern, refreshing and ecstasy friendly. This is a great 12" by the way and still available for pennies.
