Paul Gilmartin has gathered new musicians around him to yet again recreate The Danse Society. Most crucial was finding a vocalist who could provide what the band needed and what the fans wanted. He found it in a local hero who had been around in the old days and who still performs professionally today. Brian Shaugnessy, a powerful singer with Seventh Son, captured the ethos of The Danse Society immediately. His vocals in the The Danse Society genre have elements of Ian Astbury of The Cult as well as recollections of Steven Rawlings in them, provide the missing element which was guaranteed to resurrect The Danse Society back to full glory. Dave Whitaker continues to provide support and friendship as well as recording facilities, while Darran Guy provides live keyboards and fresh input to the musical process. Ade Clarke hits a strong bassline too. A devout fan, Elliot Wheeler took the opportunity through Facebook to get on board and his guitar is a seamless addition to the TDS sound.
Gilmartin has now established and consolidated his position. With the original Danse Society, everything was up in the air. It had all been done on a nod and a wink and most of the old legal entities that administered things for them were either defunct or had been bought out/dissolved or renamed. So, along with a friend of over 30 years, he set about legitimising The Danse Society.
After a long and exhaustive search, when no other source could be found, he then formed a limited company in the name of The Danse Society Ltd. to administer the band’s affairs and to give the line up a secure framework in which to operate. With two directors and the entire band as shareholders, it gives everyone a bona fide say in matters as well as the security of knowing things are being run in a right and proper manner. In today’s business world, it also gives the band legitimacy and structure. He then formed another limited company in the name of Danse Society Records Ltd. to initially release the band’s material through, but also to act as a label for other bands and a promotional body for acts and venues. Danse Society Records Ltd. has two directors who are both shareholders. It is a separate entity from The Danse Society Ltd., but the two companies operate in symbiosis and benefit one other.
