well i FINALLY got a near MINT copy of this holy grail of a who 45 today only a few days after the 45 was released 53 years ago on july 3 1964, i have built up a pretty impressive who collection but now that i got an original high numbers 45 in this insane shiny new like condition im speachless as i have been after a copy of this for about two decades but gladly i was fussy about the condition and this beauty showed up, THIS IS THE ORIGINAL ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i know there have been a couple of reissues starting around 1980 but THIS IS THE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with the fontana company sleeve and all, these are out there but to find one in the condition i did can take a good 20 years trust me, this is a beauty. im still not sure weather there was only 500 or 1000 of these released in july 1964 but either way WOW as half of them went to pete meaden and he sold them at high numbers/who gigs in 64 and 65, after that they where gone......................
£1,400 eh? Blimey. How much did you pay for yours?
I now remember, read it on The Who's official homepage: "ZOOT SUIT b/w I’M THE FACE failed to make the charts. The original single on the Fontana label, however, has since become the best known and most valuable collectors’ item in the band’s entire UK catalogue. Mint condition singles can set you back anything up to £1,400. Rumour has it that only 1,000 were pressed, and that several were apparently bought up by John Entwistle’s grandmother."
Cool - congratulation! I heard/read Entwistle's grandma bought a whole bunch to support them. I wonder where they are now?
