As reviewed by me in August 1994:Summary: Out of the ordinary but unmemorable Orb mixes for the collection. Listen before you buy.For some reason the Orb deny any involvement with this record. It says "remix and additional production by the Orb" and certainly sounds like something they'd do. More label problems? Who knows.Regardless, this is nothing memorable. It's different than most Orb material, probably sharing the most in common with their YMO "Tong Poo" remixes. "My Granny's Favourite Mix" is a bombastic space-dub anthem that is hard to recommend to anyone but an Orb completist. The "Orb-ient Mix", however, is a floaty, beatless, almost industrial noisescape. It's nice to grind your teeth to while watching Fractint. Each mix is only about 8 minutes long.

Disagree with your assessments here, I always loved these mixes. I think time has proved them to be rather excellent. The vibe sort of reminds me of early Reload material -- moody, atmospheric, warm, and emotional. Really good stuff. It wouldn't surprise me at all if these are more Thrash than Alex as Alex has always needed the help of someone else to reach those types of emotional plateaus that only the best electronic music can reach.

If memory serves me correctly—and I'm not sure it does—Kris Weston once told me that The Orb had nothing to do with this release. I think he may have been implying that Alex Paterson had nothing to do with it.

I think that’s a bit of sophistry, The Saxophonists weren’t a real group, it was Yasuaki Shimizu pretending he was (although later, allegedly they were for real). Both Morocco Mole and Secret Squirrel feature on the Auntie Aubrey compilations so what Kris is saying doesn’t really bear up to scrutiny. Especially since TDR are involved.
