Complete garbage. Mastered so loud it distorts constantly. I literally tore up and threw away this trash which should never have been released. Shame, because underneath all that distorted crap sounded like some decent songs. Paid 25 cents for this at a thrift store, so thankfully not a great loss, except for the (hopefully) temporary hearing kind.
For the record I’m obviously not interested in changing your opinion but mainly posting a different view about this album that complements your bad review since I love this album for the same reason you hate it ????
I would never review a dance or a hiphop album simply because I don't understand it, so sorry to tell you but your review leaves no doubt in my mind that you don't understand The White Stripes :-P. No offense! It's a "White Stripes fan"-wellknown fact that the album was recorded and mastered this way on purpose. I remember when I heard it the first time I had the same reaction as you. It was noisy and sounded "unclean", but I became intrigued why anyone would record an album like this so I dived deeper. And from how I understand it and appreciate the album today, the album must be viewed in the context of what was happing in the music industry at that time. Which was that music at the time was moving towards being made with a lot of digital aids and therefore always perfect. With a computer you can always do everything perfect and that just kills everything. The dynamic and soul of the track just vanishes. This album is the antithesis to that and that's why it's "imperfect" in the way you describe and that's why it has a ton of more soul in it than most music made then and today (IMHO). If you listen to just about any Jack White interview you will see that just about everything about the White Stripes is about randomness, struggling and constraints. Try and view this album from this lens.If you're interested in diving deeper into this way of thinking about music I can highly recommend this podcast with Jack White and co. where they discuss technology and the impact on music. https://brokenrecordpodcast.com/episode-1-jack-white-brendan-benson-of-the-raconteurs
