This is a top notch example of early 2000's drum 'n bass, an era that in my opinion was overwhelmed with too much filler material and generic sound-alike tracks. It merges dub and rave sound motifs in a brilliant manner. Honestly, when it was new, I didn't even make it past the title track. But nowadays I appreciate the whole package.

i broke a stylus and got told off by the club owner because of the insane bass on the nine numbers remix

This EP came out when Total Science were literally on the cusp of becoming legends ... for the second time after having gone off the radar post "Champion Sound" days. The boys had just released their remix of "Champion Sound" and "Dubplate" which tore the scene a new ass crack. Total Science were without a doubt the most technical - the best - producers in the scene at this time, and they weren't scared to be progressive or original, as is evidenced by these tracks. The level of their production gave everyone else a kick up the ass, and they had a ton of tracks floating around at this time. They were a match for Bad Company.

Make Me Feel was the one from this special EP, with its alarming, off-kilter, unusual, wailing lead hook. It really messed with ravers - it wasn't what they expected - but the production and delivery was so high grade that it all somehow just worked. This really sounded the absolute SHIT in a rave on a heavy-ass sound system, like at The End, for example. It usually got a rewind. The drums on the build up feel tough as NAILS, so it felt orgasmic riding them up to the drop. They were way, way ahead of their time, with a special crispness that hasn't been matched or replicated to date. When the hook cut in - it totally stimulated all your senses, but not in a light-hearted way - you took it really seriously. It felt like you were part of a science-fiction thriller or something!

This is vintage Total Science.
