The sound of the tracks is really muddy and of low quality.

Nice selection of tracks on this comp: not only the usual suspects. I have an issue with the mastering though. Although it is not bad from a strictly technical viewpoint, Souljazz have not at all proven able to transmit the true sound of acid house. It´s almost a fake. The original records are far from HiFi, they have some distortion in them and a characteristic kind of spaciousness in the relationship between drums and synths which is hard to describe. This space between the instruments, extremely important for the alive feeling of the tracks, is completely lost in the artificially tight, clean and balanced, somewhat plasticky mastering on this sampler. Doesnt bite and kick anymore. It´s almost a bit like having the body but not the soul. Don´t believe you can get a real grasp of true house sound from samplers like this! Its great as a roadmap, but the map is only a dry representation of the real world.

I agree. These tracks could have benefited from using an older lathe--like a Scully--to cut the lacquers.
