My version has a P in the shape of the American Flag
????????????????????????
This is an EXCELLENT "little" anthology CD-- don't be fooled by the NovaMute imprint promoting this compilation as a Probe label sampler; as this disc features some really great tracks from the PLUS-8 roster of Techno (with a capital "T") pioneers including FUSE, CYBERSONIK, CIRCUIT BREAKER, DBX, and more(!) on the "Mission USA" edition. *Note: SPAWN is a trio featuring Fred Giannelli (PTV, TURNING SHRINES) with Richie Hawtin and Daniel Bell. Utterly worthwhile CD!

This CD contains some of Richie Hawtin and friends' best releases ever. The tracks are daring and refined and offer yet more examples of why I personally prefer "old" techno to new. Until the "formula" took over in 1995 and all the daring-do disappeared, most techno was new and many different approaches were explored. Then minimalism hit big and the golden age of techno died. These tracks are uplifting yet dark, dancable yet non-commercial, and all that and then some. I wish techno artisans still were this daring. But now it seems everyone feels compelled to fit into a sub-genre. Well, what were these? House? Acid? Trance? Breaks? The answer? None of the above! They were just great techno! No preconceived notions of what they should sound like, just great techno tracks. OK, some lean heavily to acid, but they weren't pure acid. They were just great thumpin' tunes. Do give this one a listen. You won't regret it.
