Notes - Vol 2 of a concert dedicated to Duke Ellington, with very high quality ensemble and top sound quality - produced by WDR in 1994, this record has been an audiophile favorite for almost two decades, and was primarily available on CD. It has been re-released in vinyl format in separate LPs.
The band is top quality and features Dianne Reeves (lead vocal), Ray Brown, Jeff Hamilton, Benny Green. The big band does a great job in playing horns and strings sections of Ellington's big band on key tracks such as Battle Royal or Cottontail.
B2 has a lush version of Caravan where D. Reeves is excellent.
B4 is a typical Ray Brown track with a "full bass" cover of Five O'Clock Whistle, similar to other albums published a few years later (Superbass, etc). Superb version.
Great quality and excellent pressing.
