Hand pressed for Record Store Day in a 1500 edition and making its debut on vinyl, Wojciech Kilar’s haunting soundtrack to Polanski’s disturbing film The Ninth Gate features at its core the vocals of Korean born soprano, Sumi Jo. Kilar established himself as a horror score composer with Bram Stoker’s Dracula and his work here on Polanski’s film achieves a creeping sense of menace worthy of Polanski’s dark tale of Satanic worship.

Im not sure if anyone has noticed this but, inside the gatefolded cover.The VIII image is a forgery. This pictures a knight with a morningstar ready to slay another kneeled man. However the text states this should be a kneeling woman offering her neck to the executioner. In the origial book of Reverte this is indeed a Woman and the knight has a sword. Why is this imaged altered? My version is signed AT. Maybe the secret was hidden in the 500 lmt edition.

That's because some engravings differ between the movie and the book the movie is based on. The artist Francisco Solé originally made the engravings for the novel "The Dumas Club", which was first published in 1993; then he was asked by the director Roman Polanski to alter some of them for the props he was going to use for the film, in order for them to resemble some of the main characters. In this case specifically, the man wielding the mace is supposed to look like the actor Frank Langella (Boris Balkan) while the kneeled man should look like Johnnie Depp (Dean Corso).

I've had 5 copies and all played fine. I would suggest a good cleaning straight out of the shrink.
