"Recorded in association with the British Council and the Poetry Room in the Lamont Library of Harvard University. Edited by Peter Orr
The readings which are heard on these records are taken from a larger series of recordings of contemporary poets reading their own works, made by the British Council in association with the Poetry Room in the Lamont Library of Harvard University. These readings are accompanied by an interview in which the poet discusses various aspects of his arts and we have included here brief extracts from these interviews so that the listener has the opportunity to hear each poet not only as a reader of his own poems but as a person talking informally, and often revealingly, about poetry. Many of these interviews appear in a volume entitled 'The Poet Speaks', edited by Peter Orr and published by Routledge & Kegan Paul. The recordings were made between 1960 and 1965, most of them at the British Council in London, but some at the homes of the poets, which accounts for some variation in the quality of recording. Our thanks are due to the poets and publishers named below for permission to use copyright material.
